Lorwynd is a soccer-playing geek who watches too much TV while lounging around the living room with his beautiful wife.

Last Updated:  19 Feb 2012

What does Lorwynd watch?  Discounting “Too Much” as a good answer, here’s a list of what he currently watches with his wife:  How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Two Broke Girls, Big Bang Theory, Castle, Cougar Town, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Being Human, Lost Girl, Parenthood, Last Man Standing (so glad Tim Allen is back on TV), Merlin, Once Upon A Time, Grimm, Terra Nova, and Blue Bloods…and the annual HBO series Game of Thrones.  Other stuff he watches that she doesn’t:  English Premier League soccer (esp. Arsenal and Chelsea matches), Womens Professional Soccer (WPS), and International matches (World Cup qualifiers, friendlies, etc.), Ultimate fighting Championship (UFC), Football (esp. Steelers and other good match-ups).  Throw in an occasional episode of Phineas and Ferb, Chopped, House Hunters, and Diners, Drive-ins & Dives with the kids, and you’ve got ninety-five percent of what Lorwynd watches on the TV.  Too much, right?  Of course, it is.  Shows he used to watch that gracefully ended their runs:  Friends, Home Improvement, Lost, Frasier, and Greek.  A few that were “Terminated”:  Firefly, Reaper, V, and Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles.

Lorwynd is also a prolific reader.  His preferred genre is fantasy, followed by sci-fi and horror.  He also reads self-improvement, leadership/management, biographies/autobiograhies, and books on writing.  Favorite books and authors include The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (the last three with Brandon Sanderson), Stephen King, The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin, Robert Heinlein (esp. Stranger in a Strange Land and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress), the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling, Dan Simmons, R. A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, Dracula by Bram Stoker, just about any book based in the Forgotten Realms, vampire stories (including the Twilight saga), and a lot of teen/young adult Fantasy books.  You can see what he’s been reading on The Reading List.

Movies… too many to name so here are the top ones:  Highlander, Armageddon, The Matrix, The Wedding Singer, The Princess Bride, The Breakfast Club, Star Wars (episodes IV, V, VI), The Crow, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Indiana Jones trilogy (The Crystal Skull was pretty bad), most Bruce Willis flicks, and most John Hughes flicks.  Really looking forward to Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movies, too.

Luckily, Lorwynd’s job allows him time during the day to exercise.  Eating at his desk allows him to play pick-up soccer almost every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and hit the gym for treadmill, elliptical machine or recumbent bike on Tuesday and Thursday.  If not for this, Lorwynd might look like the couch potato that the previous parts of this page might lead one to believe.

  1. What! No ‘Family Guy’? How do you think we foreigners keep up with what you guys are up to? Otherwise, I approve.

    • I’ve seen a handful of episodes of Family Guy. Not my thing, although the “Saving Private Brian” episode was really funny. I guess I need to update the page again as Women’s Professional Soccer died and has been reborn under a new name and a few TV shows need to be updated, at the least.
